Sicily’s east coast is one scene after another: Mazzarò bay and Isola Bella below Taormina, the Riviera dei Ciclopi with the lava stacks of Aci Trezza, the Vendicari reserve and the island of Ortigia, the ancient heart of Syracuse.
On a day trip you sail from Catania or Riposto to Taormina; with more days you head south to Ortigia, or north through the Strait to the Aeolian Islands, a few hours away.
Departures are from the port of Catania or the Riposto marina, half an hour from Catania Fontanarossa airport.

When to go
The season runs from May to October. June and September have the best sea and fewer boats; in August it is wise to book well ahead. Day trips work all season long.
