Portofino and the Cinque Terre

Why by boat

The Riviera di Levante is the closest seaside destination to Milan and one of the most elegant in Italy. Portofino, the headland with the abbey of San Fruttuoso, the Cinque Terre and the Gulf of Poets are all within a few hours’ sailing.

The Cinque Terre, together with Portovenere and the islands of the gulf, have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. From the sea you see the five villages one after another, with terraced vineyards running down to the water.

Departures are from Santa Margherita, Rapallo, Lavagna or La Spezia, depending on the boat. If you wish to continue west, the French Riviera is just one passage away.

The itinerary

Four stops not to miss

A sample route: we build it around your days, the weather and what you want to experience.

  1. 01

    Portofino and Paraggi

Italy’s most famous piazzetta and the bay of Paraggi, with the clearest water in Liguria.

  2. 02

    San Fruttuoso

The abbey that can only be reached on foot or from the sea and, on the seabed of the bay, the Christ of the Abyss.

  3. 03

    Cinque Terre

Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, one after another along the coast.

  4. 04

    Gulf of Poets

Portovenere, Palmaria island and Lerici, to end the day with dinner ashore.

Frequently asked questions

Before you set off

Can we anchor off Portofino?

The headland is a Marine Protected Area with rules on anchoring and mooring. The crew uses the permitted spots and mooring buoys where available.

Where do we depart from?

From Santa Margherita, Rapallo, Lavagna or La Spezia, depending on the boat and the programme. From Milan it takes about two hours.

Can we visit the Cinque Terre ashore?

Yes: you go ashore in the villages by tender, or we can arrange a walk or a wine tasting among the vineyards.

Can we continue to the French Riviera?

Yes, with more days on board: Portofino and Monaco combine well in a single itinerary.

Which boat should we choose?

For one day, a day cruiser or an open boat; for several days, a motor yacht with cabins. We will advise you based on your guests.
