The Saronic Gulf is the home sea of the Athenians: islands close to each other, harbours full of character and calm water even when the meltemi blows in the Aegean.
Car-free Hydra, with its stone captains’ houses, is the most elegant stop; Poros and Spetses have lively harbours, while Aegina and the gulf of Epidaurus offer quiet bays and the ancient theatre.
Departures are from Alimos Marina, twenty minutes from the city centre and forty from Athens airport. From here you can also set course for the Cyclades.

When to go
The season runs from April to October. The Saronic Gulf is sheltered from the meltemi, so July and August are calm too: that is why it is the safest choice for a first week in Greece.
