The coast between Taormina and Syracuse is best discovered from the sea. In one day you see bays that are hard to reach by land, with Etna always in the background.
Isola Bella and Mazzarò
The little island linked to the beach by a strip of sand is Taormina’s signature stop. A little further north, the Blue Grotto of Capo Sant’Andrea is visited by tender.
The Riviera dei Ciclopi
Between Aci Castello and Aci Trezza, black lava sea stacks rise from turquoise water: legend says they are the rocks Polyphemus hurled at Odysseus.
Ortigia and the south
With more days you head south to Syracuse: swims below the walls of Ortigia, then the Vendicari reserve and the village of Marzamemi for dinner.
A day or a week
- A day: departure from Catania or Riposto, course for Taormina and the Riviera dei Ciclopi.
- Several days: Ortigia to the south, or the Strait of Messina and the Aeolian Islands to the north.
What it costs
A 25-metre yacht with crew starts from about €6,995 per day. On request a chef joins with Sicilian produce.
