Skippered or crewed charter: differences and costs

Catamarano Bali 4.8 con equipaggio a Mykonos

When you charter a boat without a licence there are three options. What changes is who does what on board, and the price. Here is how to choose.

Skipper only

The skipper sails the boat, chooses the anchorages and takes care of mooring and safety. Cooking and tidying are up to you. It costs about €200 per day plus food and is the most common option on 12 to 14-metre catamarans.

Skipper and hostess

The hostess prepares breakfasts and simple meals, does the shopping and keeps the boat tidy. It is the ideal option for families and groups who want a real holiday. A hostess costs about €180–190 per day.

Full crew

On luxury yachts and catamarans the crew is part of the boat: captain, chef or hostess and often a deckhand. The service is hotel-level, with bespoke menus and cabins made up every day. The crew is either included in the rate or listed separately.

A quick comparison

  • Budget: skipper only.
  • Comfort: skipper and hostess.
  • Luxury: full crew with chef.

What is paid separately

In every option fuel, port fees and provisioning are extra, usually covered by the APA. The skipper’s and hostess’s food is paid by the guests.

In our fleet every card clearly shows whether the crew is included or extra.
